During my last semester of college I was working at the University of Alabama Alumni Association as their Graphic Designer. It was by far my favorite job I'd had in college because I had my own office and the creative freedom to design any flyer I wanted! One day I was getting ready to clock out when I asked my boss if he would ever consider hiring for my position full-time. I had already applied to 65+ jobs all around the country and was starting to lose hope. He said there wasn't enough money in the budget to hire me, and at that moment I realized that many companies can't afford to hire a Graphic Designer full-time. I shot up out of my desk and said "I'm starting my own company!!!!" And so it began — I went into a deep google search and didn't get any sleep that night. My dream was so big that I couldn't contain my excitement.

I come from an entrepreneurial background with my grandfather, mother, aunt, three brothers, and father all owning their own business. I am full of life and very passionate about making the world a better place by using my God-given talents. I started my own tutoring business while still in college at The University of Alabama, making $9,000 in two semesters. Upon graduation I used this money to launch AMD, an agency where you work directly with the designer, no middle man (or woman). I have run my agency for the past two years and tripled my revenue from year one to year two. I started in a 100 sf office and now I have an office on Morris Ave. I am eager to grow my business into a full-sized design agency.

My story of becoming a graphic designer is long and filled with many blessings. I was always told you had to work for what you wanted, because know one was going to give it to you. My senior year of high school I didn't know what I was going to do with my life or where I was going to start my journey. All I had in mind was that I loved Auburn and was going to get there somehow. I grew up showing horses and I didn't realized one day they would get me to Auburn and that I would be on the Auburn Equestrian team. I always had an eye for design and art, but didn’t really know how to apply that to a career, until I visited Auburn. Auburn not only gave me a degree in Graphic Design but a lifetime of happiness, memories, friendship, a National and SEC Championship title.

Graphic Design is very interesting to me. I love using the placement of words and pictures to convey a story from start to finish. It has always been my desire to use my talents to glorify our Lord and graphic design is a platform where I am able to accomplish this. Being able to make a white art board turn into something beautiful is a wonderful feeling. When I look at a piece of artwork, what is going through my mind; is how did they get here, what was going on in the time that they created it. Why does it work and how can I use this for my knowledge. It takes me through a field of colors and geometric shapes that explored in my mind. I have always loved to design, it was away from me to express how I see everything around me and bringing a little more color to the world. When I am designing a branding project, to me its a little secret that know one knows. It’s like a child being born, you know it is there and you see it growing, but you don’t really know how it will turn out. The unknown is the best part of designing. That is what keeps bringing me back to work everyday, that unknown of what I will develop in the 8 hours I am sitting in front of a computer.

Once, when I was in third grade, my mother got called in for a parent-teacher conference,  which was definitely unusual. My teacher shared with my mother that I had stood up during class when she was endorsing a political candidate and proceeded to politely, but passionately, debate my teacher on the credentials of the candidates. When asked where I got the information, I responded, "I watch the evening news of course." I was a fiery, passionate, driven child who loved learning, and not much has changed in that little third grader's heart since that day in class. While I may have been labeled bossy then, I've been lucky enough to have several mentors refine my leadership skills throughout the years.

Campaigns, communication, and culture are my passions these days. And, when we can combine those variables, I'm even more sold. After working at The Walt Disney Company in a segment of the company that advised outside companies how to improve their culture, I was bit by the internal culture and communication bug. Along with that passion comes my writing, which I try to do a lot of each day. As copywriter/editor, I realize the capacity for impact that language contains. Once we learn enough about a client to harness the power of strategic, tailored writing, the sky is the limit.
