How to Avoid the Sunday Scaries

We’ve all been there…it’s Sunday, and as much as you love your job, you are just not ready for the week ahead. You would rather live in disillusioned bliss that Monday will never arrive rather than prepare for it. Follow our tips below to skirt off the Sunday Scaries while still enjoying your last day of “freedom.”

Meal Prep on Sunday

Meal prepping is an awesome activity to pair with Netflix binge-watching– we all do it on Sunday. Grab the ingredients at your convenience on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday morning at store (or have them delivered if you’re boujie!). It’s hard to plan for five days, so try starting with planning up until dinner on Wednesday night. Then, you can re-strategize and plan for the rest of the week/weekend.

Allow for a couple of meals out during the week! It’s a great way to save money and cut down on decisions you have to make throughout the week.

Lay Out Your Clothes for the Next Day

Be the fashion icon at your office this week, and avoid any outfit repeating by laying out your clothes for the next few days! Folks like Barack Obama, Tim Cook, and other successful leaders avoid using to much brain power in the AM and limit the amount of decisions they have to make throughout the day by laying out clothes the night before. Obama even sleeps in his work out clothes for the next morning!

Add Something to your Morning Routine that you look Forward too… Like Meditation

Maybe it’s yoga, stretching, that cup of coffee, or a hot breakfast. Whatever it is that you look forward to, make sure that you integrate it into your routine. Give yourself time for the things that you love. You might just find that you start looking forward to waking up on Monday morning and getting your week started. Anything that brings you healthy joy is worth it!

Create Your Own Turn Down Service

You are your own celebrity. Self care it like you mean it. Just like fancy hotels have a turn-down service for VIP guests, you should give yourself a turn-down service tailored to you! Whether it’s a jade eye roller, your favorite night cream, a great book, turning on your essential oil diffuser, or combination– make it unique to you.

A nighttime routine signals to your body and mind that it’s time for bed. Some key tips to follow for a good night’s sleep:

  • No screen time one hour before you want to be asleep

  • No food one hour before you want to be asleep- water only

  • Read any kind of book, magazine, or printed article that makes your brain tired

Set Your Alarm for 10-15 Minutes Earlier Than Normal

This sounds counter-intuitive, but allow yourself an extra 10-15 minutes in your schedule to lay in bed, stretch, pray, cuddle your pet, or practice gratitude. Most of the time, we lay in bed a few extra minutes anyways. Scheduling that time allows you to enjoy those precious moments, and maybe even look forward to them. The hard alarm, “need to get up now” moment can be a rough jolt to the Monday morning, and this allows you for a little more transition time.
